By far the biggest thing currently in the news is still the recession. As to be expected it’s mostly doom and gloom, huge numbers now without a job, repossessions up and footballers still being paid obscene amounts – oh yeah, the recession doesn’t seem to have reached some places yet!

But in amongst it all there are these so-called ‘green shootists’. People – or organisations – who have an interest in telling people its not as bad as it is. Government grilled about there previous decisions want to save face and tell people it’ll be over soon, Banks wanting to boost mortgage applications tell us they aren’t in trouble and it’ll all be over soon. However I’m sorry to say, I can’t quite see it!

This is of course a housing blog, and that’s what I’m here to talk about. One of the main things effecting the housing market, repossessions, rental rates, house prices etc is the high levels of unemployment. If people don’t have a job they can’t pay their mortgage or rent. Its simple!

And this is the reason we’re not out of the woods yet.

This week we’ve been told unemployment has reached more than 2.2 Million. Lloyds says they are going to cut another 1200, Jaguar are laying off 300 and then there are the public sector jobs. Its been published on many news websites and newspapers that hundreds of thousands of public sector jobs could be cut over the next few years, with a massive 30,000 being cut in one fell swoop soon after the election next year.

This surely has got to lead to another dip in the housing market. Such a massive loss of jobs isn’t going to improve matters and is only going to bring more repossessions and more misery across the country.

So sorry to all you green shootists out there, you can say what you like about us nearing the end of the recession, but I just don’t believe you.

I have set up this blog to run alongside my website www.loveyourlandlord.co.uk - feel free to check it out.

My site is a ‘Private Rental Housing Review Site’. Phew! In a nutshell it gives users the oppourtunity to rate and review the housing, landlords and letting agents they lived in and used.

I’m also currently setting up www.loveyourlandlordextra.co.uk – your welcome to check this one out too but I can tell you now you’ll be disappointed! Once its ready it will containg housing news, guest articles about housing, help and advice and general housing stuff.

Im going to get my excuses in early and tell you all that whilst setting up all this stuff I also work full time. Thus, my blogging my be a little sporadic and infrequent - in the beggining at least. But be assured that whilst I’m away from my blog I’m not relaxing in the beautiful English sunshine, I’ll be spending most of my spare time making sure the site is a good as it can be and become a useful tool in the battle for better rented housing.
